Planned Giving

A Note from Pastor Tim

Dear Friend,

We are told that a staggering 70% of Americans do not have a current will.  The ramifications of this on children, surviving spouses, on taxes and fees is immeasurable.  I think there are many reasons for this.  Fear of dying, procrastination, confusion about the estate planning process, the cost of creating a will…and more.

We, want to provide some “layman friendly” estate planning information that can enable you to protect your family and be a wise steward of what He has entrusted you with. So, grab a cup of coffee or tea, kick off your shoes and browse around.

If you just want to get down to business, you can click on the Estate Plan Organizer at the bottom of the page and walk yourself through a tutorial/data gathering process.  At the end, you can print it at home or ask for help.

All of the information you log in is confidential.  The Estate Plan Organizer does not ask for social security numbers or bank account numbers.  No one will see your entries unless you submit at the end and ask for help. In that case, one of our friends at The Baptist Foundation of Alabama or our partners at PhilanthroCorp (a Christ-centered estate planning firm) will be in touch to serve you in any way they can.

So, be blessed and make yourself at home!

Pastor Tim Lovett

Testimony of Tony and Deborah Smithson

Several years ago, we had updated our will and estate plan when we had a big move in our family. Since then, we had some family changes and knew we needed to make some updates. When we saw that our church was promoting their partnership with the Baptist Foundation of Alabama, we decided to sign up for the service. We knew what to expect going in, but it was so nice to make updates and changes exactly how we wanted. Being able to do things over the phone was flexible and convenient for our schedules. We had an excellent experience and would encourage everyone to do it! This is a high-quality service, and we have been encouraging friends in our circle to take advantage of it We highly recommend this excellent service.

PhilanthroCorp Estate Planning Firm

PhilanthroCorp Experiences from Members of the Calvary Family in Their Own Words

“We are very aware of the importance of a will to protect our families and to otherwise be good stewards with the assets with which our God has blessed us. One who does not provide a will leaves it up to the state to do what it wants with the estate. The questions asked by PhilanthroCorp about our resources and wishes for their distribution at our deaths guided us easily and efficiently to accomplish our goals. The process involved just a few phone calls and a written draft. We were pleased with the professionalism and secure nature of the experience. It is a gratifying thought to leave resources with which God so generously blessed us to bless others long into the future.”

“It is extremely important to have a plan like this in place no matter what stage of life you are in. PhilanthroCorp helped us understand that everything we have comes from God. Giving a portion of our estate (whether large or small) back to Him when we pass is Biblical and necessary. This was an easy, pain-free process that was entirely mapped out for us by PhilanthroCorp.  They helped us have peace of mind that whatever we have left when we pass will go to the correct places. They also helped us understand that when our time on earth is complete, we can and should honor God for what he has blessed us with during our lives on earth.”

“We’ve seen what can be accomplished with a legacy gift such as the S.D. Allen gift. PhilanthroCorp made the process easy while allowing us to update our wills and other documents.”

“It was important for us to have our child’s future secured financially, spiritually and emotionally. Knowing that PhilanthroCorp is a Christian organization and that Calvary put their stamp of approval on them was good enough for us.”

“When Calvary made the decision to partner with PhilanthroCorp, it gave my wife and I the opportunity to address our wills which had not been updated since the 60’s. Much to our surprise, as we began the process, was that the people of PhilanthroCorp had been down this road many times before and had the experience and knowledge to make all the decisions much easier. The telephone conferences were professionally handled with absolutely no pressure put on us and were not overly time consuming. The advice and counsel by PhilanthroCorp was biblically-based and did include encouragement to earmark a portion of the estate to be left to faith- based organizations.  We could not be more pleased with the final results and both of us now are at peace with the knowledge that all the decisions that need to be made are now completed.”

“Having a will took on a renewed importance when our daughter was born. In addition to taking care of our family, one of the things that was really comforting to look at was how our legacies could be used to further the ministries and missions that are important to us.”

Stewardship and Estate Planning

Estate planning may be the most important act of stewardship any of us will ever undertake. It is, at its core, the process of determining to whom we should transfer the stewardship of all that has been entrusted to us when we are called to step into eternity.

Calvary Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa has partnered with PhilanthroCorp, a trusted estate planning firm, to help you put together an estate plan that accomplishes your goals. The Calvary families represented in this video may have changed just a bit in the past few years, but the information remains the same. Since 1997, PhilanthroCorp has served hundreds of the most respected faith-based organizations and thousands of their supporters.  There is no cost to you for their assistance.  In addition to the self-help tools provided on these pages, they can help you in several ways:
Personalized Assistance

The PhilanthroCorp team will guide you gently through a discovery process that will consider your assets, the people and the ministries that are dependent upon you.
They will help you:
  • Understand such issues as probate and taxes
  • Address tools such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney and advance medical directives
  • Develop an estate plan that reflects your values and priorities
  • Implement the plan through an attorney you already know or one from their network of attorneys, offering preferential rates.
Once your documents are in place, they will further help you to make sure instructions are in place to make everything easier for loved ones.

Phone Seminars

To quickly learn and gain important insights, attend a phone seminar.  Here you can listen in from the privacy of your own home as a PhilanthroCorp Estate Specialist guides the group through these important concepts.  The seminars are interactive so, if you want, you may ask questions, or remain anonymous.  Afterwards, you can even stay on the line and request a private conversation for personalized assistance.
